Fees
Please note that psychological services are generally not covered by provincial healthcare (i.e., MSP). Many individuals have secondary health insurance (e.g., Pacific Blue Cross) that does cover psychological services. You are advised to check with your provider about your individual benefits. Any of my fees that are not covered by secondary health insurance will be billed to you directly.
Please also note that I typically do not work with insurance companies directly. You will pay for services in full, and need to request reimbursement from your insurance company. There are two exceptions to this:
If a specific agreement has been negotiated prior to treatment (e.g., through ICBC or your lawyer in a personal injury case).
If you are an Indigenous client who is eligible for mental health benefits through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). I am a registered provider through the FNHA and can bill directly to them, but this depends on your eligibility for services. See their website for more information: https://www.fnha.ca/benefits/mental-health
Fees for Assessment
The fees for your assessment will vary depending on how complex or lengthy it is. Based on a discussion with your referral source (e.g., medical doctor, occupational therapist), I will be able to determine the cost for your assessment ahead of time. You will be advised to contact your insurance company to determine your level of coverage, and decide whether you wish to proceed with the assessment. Each assessment fee includes face-to-face time spent with you, as well as the time to score your test results, write your report, meet with you for feedback, and speak with the referral source, where appropriate.
Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment
This is the standard neuropsychological assessment that will be required in most cases, and will provide the most in-depth assessment of your current function. These assessments useful in providing a diagnosis, providing a pre- or post-surgical assessment, and also for treatment planning. These assessments typically include a 60-minute intake interview, between 6-8 hours of testing, a full written report and a 60-minute feedback session. These assessments start at $3000 but may cost more, depending on the complexity of your case.
Brief Neuropsychological Screening Assessment
A brief screening assessment may be appropriate in certain circumstances. For example, if you have recently had an assessment and simply need a re-assessment to monitor your progress, or to plan a course of treatment. Other times, a very specific question needs only a very focal type of assessment battery. This will typically include a 60-minute intake interview, between 2-3 hours of testing, a full written report and a 60-minute feedback session. These assessments cost $2000.
Fees for Treatment
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy could focus on a number of different issues, such as adjustment to brain injury, depression following stroke, and anxiety over late-life memory loss, to name just a few examples. My rate is $230 for a full hour-long appointment.
Cognitive Rehabilitation
Cognitive rehabilitation could focus on a number of different problem areas, such as attention training, learning memory strategies, and skill-building for self-regulation and executive functioning. These sessions are typically done individually, but may at times require (or benefit from) family involvement, to help implement what you learn.
My rate for these sessions is also $230 for a full hour-long appointment.
Note that, for many clients, their individual sessions involve a blend of individual psychotherapy to improve mood, as well as learning cognitive strategies. The same hourly rate applies in these cases.
